Election Update (August 25, 2022)

Wei-Tai Kwok to Continue as Lafayette City Councilmember for Two-Year Term through 2024

The nomination period for City Council Candidates closed on August 12, 2022.

Three City Council incumbents, including myself, filed for the three available seats. No other candidates filed papers within the time allowed by state law. Since only one person has been nominated for each available seat, California Election law allows for the City Council, in lieu of holding an election, to appoint the three candidates.

Since the election would have cost the City between $38,000 to $57,000 ($2-3 per registered voter), the City Council, after receiving input from the public, voted unanimously on August 25, 2022 to appoint me and the other incumbents to new terms.

I would like to thank members of the community for supporting me in my public service role. I am excited to continue volunteering for the betterment of Lafayette over my upcoming two-year term.

With appreciation,

Wei-Tai Kwok
